Make-A-Difference Month

The Month of April, Earth Month, is a time to learn and celebrate. This month is an opportunity to learn more about the natural world and how we can protect it, as well as celebrate the beauty and wonder of our environment. This month we are challenging you to not only learn about and appreciate your environment, but to make a difference.

Everyday when I left my house, my dad would send me off to school with the phrase “Make a difference!” This encouragement has stuck with me for over 23 years, reminding me each day to make the world a better place. What does it mean to make a difference though? So often that seems like such a tall order. In such a big world with so many problems, my contribution feels insignificant. When you think of yourself as one small person, trying to make a difference is daunting. I think we’re underestimating ourselves. The reality is that as individuals, any action we take is small. But together, as a network, we can truly begin to have an impact on our world. It all starts with you.

Each day this month, Mobile Baykeeper will share one way you can make a difference. These daily challenges range from small, easy changes, like transitioning to energy-efficient light bulbs, to larger improvements, like hybrid cars and solar panels. The point of these daily suggestions is not just to show you how easy and manageable more environmentally-friendly choices can be, but to challenge you to adopt them. And when you do, we want to hear from you. Send us testimonials and pictures of your response to our daily challenges, and we will feature you on our blog, as well as enter you in a weekly drawing for a fun prize!

Together, we can make a difference. It all starts with you.

Check back here on April 1st, 2012, for the first day of Make-A-Difference Month.
